Scammers Target Summer Travelers

May 30, 2024 – Published on FOX 13 News Seattle, WA

As the summer travel season approaches, staying informed and cautious is crucial to avoid falling victim to increasingly sophisticated travel scams.

In an interview with FOX 13, GuidePoint Security’s Chris Warner warns travelers about in an increase in complex travel scams, particularly the use of AI to create convincing phishing emails and phone calls. These scams often mimic legitimate communications so well that even the most cautious travelers can be deceived. Key advice from Warner includes being vigilant and skeptical of any unsolicited communications, doing business only with known and reputable companies and being wary of deals that seem too good to be true.

Travelers can protect themselves by validating online purchases, checking for secure website indicators like HTTPS and calling to confirm the legitimacy of deals before providing any financial information. Additionally, using multi-factor authentication and keeping software updated can provide extra layers of security.
