You can depend on them… Those are things that I really look for and that’s what stands out to me when it comes to GuidePoint.” – Shawn MacMillan, Chief Security Officer, Altafiber

My name is Shawn McMillan. I'm the Chief Security Officer at Altafiber. They provide best in class fiber connectivity to the Midwest and Hawaii.
I think what makes managing risk challenging for Alta Fiber today is really our geographic footprint.
We have business services and consumer services in the Midwest and in Hawaii. I think when you have that geographic difference, how do we work better together, how do we collaborate better when it comes to operational efficiency, managing our security posture as one. It just makes it a little bit challenging from a risk perspective and that's what we're currently dealing with today.
When I'm looking at cybersecurity partners, one of the qualities I look at is trust, first and foremost. Some other ones that you think about are always a given, expertise in their field, that independent perspective. But at the end of the day, it's trust. I want somebody that I can work with, that I know when they're giving me recommendations, when I know that they're providing me guidance on something, that I have trust that's something that I look for continually in the partners that I work with.
I think what first stood out to me about GuidePoint Security is the depth of their expertise. They work in so many different areas. They provide so many services in so many cyber areas, that has been a real important thing for me when I'm looking for a partner. Working with them in the cyberspace, there's so much change. And sometimes when you have that solid rock of a vendor or a partner that you work with that just feels like you can trust them, can depend on them, they have that deep level of expertise, those are things that I really look for and that's what stands out to me when it comes to GuidePoint.
GuidePoint has really helped us make better decisions by being more informed. I think it's helping navigate that complexity around emerging technology, around how the technology space is evolving as quickly as it has been. With the introduction of AI and Agenetic AI and other emerging technologies, especially in the cyber space, having a trusted partner that can help you navigate that and also stay aligned to your goals. Because that's the one thing that's really difficult. It's one thing to see through the complexity and say, Hey, these are vendors that are going to stand the test of time. It's another thing to make sure that that vendor is one that aligns to your internal goals for your team, for your cybersecurity program. And I think GuidePoint does that at such a high level.
