Job Scams: Beware of unsolicited job offers on sites like LinkedIn

Job seekers could be left unemployed due to fake listings on sites such as LinkedIn.
Job scams will usually pop up around large scale layoffs. It’s when scammers know they may have some easy targets.
Here’s what it looks like: it can come through as a text message claiming they saw your profile on LinkedIn, and that you’d be great for this role. Or, it can come through LinkedIn. While LinkedIn isn’t involved, threat actors can use the website to act as a recruiter and look for people that have “open to work” on their profile.
In both cases, they may try to lure you in for data harvesting, credential harvesting or wire fraud.
“When somebody sends you a solicitation for a job, make sure you go on the website for that company and check and see are they actually hiring there,” said Paul Keener, cybersecurity strategist at GuidePoint Security. “One of the things I do is I have a LinkedIn premium subscription. If you get text message unsolicited, that is more than likely spam. So you can probably just go ahead and delete that. If you are actually looking for a job, use a reputable site, use a reputable firm if you are going through a recruiter.”
