Nearly all AT&T customers affected by data hack

July 12, 2024 – Published on KVUE-TV ABC News Austin, TX

The data of nearly all AT&T customers was downloaded to a third-party platform in a recent security breach, the company announced, as cyberattacks against businesses, schools and health systems continue to spread globally.

The breach, most of which took place over five months in 2022, hit customers of AT&T’s cellular customers, customers of mobile virtual network operators using AT&T’s wireless network, as well as its landline customers who interacted with those cellular numbers.

GuidePoint Security’s Mitchem Boles joined the KVUE-TV team to share what this means for AT&T customers, why the attack likely happened and how consumers can protect their valuable data moving forward.
