The Importance of Workplace Culture in Breeding Success
Posted by: GuidePoint Security
When we started GuidePoint Security almost 10 years ago we did so with the goal of addressing the complex and dynamic cybersecurity challenges facing enterprise and government organizations to be their trusted advisor, to deliver robust solutions that ensure the protection of their brands, reputations, and digital assets. In order to achieve this, we needed a workforce defined by elite cybersecurity skills and an unmatched drive to propel the cybersecurity industry forward.
We’ve worked hard to create and retain this talented workforce, and the most crucial part of this is building our unique culture. This culture fosters cybersecurity innovation and excellence, and is based around our 4 core values:
- Take Ownership and Complete Our Mission
From its inception, GuidePoint Security was built by industry veterans and security practitioners instilling our approach to information security into the lifeblood of our organization. It is the definition of “security as a culture”. This continues today in how we approach security for our internal practices as well as our client consulting engagements. Our internal alignment with industry best practices and implementation of various security solutions have never been about checking the box. Rather, we implement the right level controls and solutions that address the risks our organization faces. This same approach permeates our client engagements as well, as we partner with them to understand and advise based on their unique environments.
- Wow Them
Our laser focus on excelling at delivering cybersecurity solutions has helped to build a level of trust and confidence with our customers that has powered GuidePoint’s growth. Our employees are certified experts in their fields, working to improve their craft and always deliver for our customers. We strive to consistently “wow” customers with our capabilities, responsiveness, customer service, and delivery professionalism. Our collective team has some of the most advanced certifications in the industry, and we are relentless in our quest to further sharpen our skills, and bring those advanced capabilities to our clients every day.
- Always Challenge Ourselves and Have Fun Doing It
We are problem solvers and work with our customers to tackle complex cybersecurity issues and challenges. We constantly raise the bar internally and challenge ourselves to improve every day. We take customer feedback very seriously, and have a continuous improvement mindset that allows us to continue to outperform our competitors. We also know how to have a good time – even during these unusual times, we find ways to have fun with virtual happy hours as an internal team, with our customers and partners.
- No Jerks!
We are proud to have a team of not only the best and brightest, but also just plain old good people. One example of celebrating this is our Pay it Forward program where every week GuidePoint employees nominate one of their peers – it’s an earned and treasured “pat on the back” from those you work with.
Another aspect of GuidePoint Security’s culture is to help… after all that’s why we were founded almost 10 years ago. With our Giving Back program, we go well beyond information security. Just this year we’ve run dozens of #GuidePointGivesBack programs with our partners to support local restaurants and coffee shops impacted by the loss of business due to COVID-19 and providing it to the real heroes – those front-line healthcare workers fighting to save lives. We’ve donated iPads to hospital patients so they could see their loved ones, and we recently ran a campaign that raised more than $3000 for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In total, we’ve been able to raise close to $10,000 so far this year to help the greater good.
Everything we do, from creating employee programs like Flexible Time Off and fully remote work environments to “wow”ing our clients, incorporates these values. They are not only fundamental to making GuidePoint the national leader in cybersecurity, but ensure that it’s a place where employees choose to work. We were recently honored by Inc Magazine among the Best Workplaces in 2020. See the full list here: https://www.inc.com/bestworkplaces
