Be Aware of New Scams Popping Up Thanks to Artificial Intelligence

The Better Business Bureau says in 2022, tax schemes cost Americans more than $5 billion. There are new scams popping up all around thanks to artificial intelligence. Taxpayers are at their most vulnerable to fall victim to fraud. Your personal information is one of the things that scammers are going after, tax season has all of us sharing our financial details in order to file our returns. In the past, consumers were warned to be certain of who they were using to file taxes, make sure websites are legitimate. But now artificial intelligence is being used to make it seem as if you’re dealing with a real person or a real tax service. 

Mitchem Boles, Senior Security Advisor, GuidePoint Security said there are chat functions on websites that are appearing to be legitimate but are actually fraudulent, customer support portals to answer questions, but also to ask for personal information. We also see a series of phone calls that appear to be realistic, sounding exactly like someone you may know, from the entity that does taxes.
