2-year-old Katelyn Madison is your typical toddler. Her favorite colors are pink and purple, and she loves Ms. Rachel and Play-Doh.
But the fun of being a kid took a backseat earlier this year.
“This is really important to my family. Kate was diagnosed with a really rare type of leukemia in February of this year,” said Kelly Madison, Katelyn’s mother. “Less than 12 kids a year get diagnosed with this.”
Thankfully, Katelyn is now in remission, but she remains immunocompromised. That brings us to Tuesday’s project in her family’s Penfield backyard, where volunteers built a custom pink-and-purple playset.
Pediatric cancer nonprofit Roc Solid Foundation teamed up with GuidePoint Security to turn Katelyn’s dream playset into a reality.
“It’s important to be a part of the community,” said Jenni Rupp of GuidePoint Security. “When I saw this, and this was local to us, I have a daughter who’s 2 years old, so I felt like this was important.”
